BSKYB owns a share in ITV and virgin media is trying to fight against this with a legal challenge. As there are laws on monopolies, Virgin media are looking to use that to their advantage.
I find this story significant as it shows the extent of the rivalry that is currently taking place between virgin and sky. Virgin are trying hard to compete and if this ruling turns out in their favour, they will make more significant strides into bringing sky down. Recently there have also been alot of complaints with sky. Alot to do with their broadband service, the offers they are making and their call centres. There have been alot of complaints registered on these issues and with virgin making giant strides, one can feel that they may be market leaders in a few years time. Also Rupert Murdochs ideologies are filtered throughout everything he owns and if virgin did dominate, it would be interesting to see if society was to change with richard bransons ideologies being offered.
